Education

Wildcare is licensed by the Department of Environment Tourism Science and Innovation (DETSI) in Queensland and holds a Group Rehabilitation Permit. This Permit allows Wildcare to endorse its Group Permit to members who have completed necessary training to care for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife for the purposes of rehabilitating them and returning them back to the wild. Wildcare provides this training free of charge, through a series of comprehensive in-person workshops, webinars, online training (being developed) as well as mentoring by experienced members.

Education Programs

Wildcare takes pride in the comprehensive training program it offers to wildlife volunteers. Our education program has been developed extensively and includes training sessions on most species of wildlife and other environmental topics. We offer in-person workshops as well as online training sessions on some topics, which we continue to develop.

Wildcare is proud to offer FREE training to all members.

Our training programs are open to:

Wildlife rescuers, transporters and carers.
Veterinary nurses and students.
Ecologists and students.
Zoo and captive animal staff.
Animal welfare officers.
Community members who want to learn more about caring for Australia’s unique wildlife.

Our general training workshops are free to current financial members of Wildcare and you can join up here.

Most of our training workshops, include comprehensive training resources on that topic which are available to download afterwards. Printed copies of training manuals are usually available at additional cost.

The content of most Wildcare workshops is not suitable for children. Children under 14 years of age are not permitted to attend. We have compiled a list of recommended educational opportunities for younger members in our Easy Reference Sheet – Wildlife Activities for Junior Members.

Children between the ages of 14 and 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
